Indian Dammar resin is widely used in India and Nepal, where it is commonly known as Sal Dhoop. For millennia, Sal resin has been burned by Hindus during religious ceremonies. It is also frequently mentioned in Buddhist traditions, and Gautama Buddha is believed to have been born under the branches of a Sal tree.
Sal Dhoop resin is valued for its grounding and soothing qualities, with a warm, earthy aroma that beautifully complements Ethiopian frankincense.
The Sal tree (Shorea robusta), also known as sāla, shala, sakhua, or sarai, belongs to the Dipterocarpaceae family and is native to India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Tibet, and the Himalayan regions.
